Top Four SEO Tips for Your Online Content
If you have a website or a blog, you already know how important it is to optimize your site for search engines. Without proper SEO techniques and best practices, your target audience will not be able to find your site. So do yourself a favour and take some time to learn these top four SEO tips for your online content.
Do Your Research
Even if you think you already know your keyphrases, don’t skip this step. It’s amazing how often you may think you know what keyphrases the target audience is using in the search engines, but when you start plugging in the search terms, you’ll discover it’s often quite different than what you expected. How do you start your research? There are a number of free tools such as Google AdWords Keyword Planner (https://adwords.google.com/KeywordPlanner).
For Google’s Keyword Planner, first create an account and then click “Tool” to choose “Keyword Planner” in the drop down.
Type in your keyword and you’ll see list of keyphrases that people have used to search the topic of interest.
Then choose the best keyphrases for each web page by taking into account the monthly search volume and the competition as well as¬ your location (especially if local traffic is important), services, brand terms and products.
Most importantly, put yourself in your prospects’ shoes to determine what keyphrases are being used to search for your services and/or products.
Add Your Keyphrase to Both Text and Images
One of the most important SEO tips is to choose the most important keyphrase for each page and use it in your headline, subheading, hyperlinks, image alt text and throughout the body of the content. Make sure to only use the keyphrase where it makes sense in your content. Keyphrase stuffing is no longer tolerated by search engines and has always been annoying to website visitors.
You’ll also need to create a unique title, description and keywords tag for every web page. If you have a WordPress site, you can install a plugin (such as Yoast) to help you with this aspect of the SEO.
Share Quality Content on a Regular Basis
The quality of your content is a big deal. Google made that clear with numerous Panda updates. So be sure to write fresh content that is well-written and original.
Adding a blog to your site is a great way to increase your chances of being found because you will be constantly updating your website with content that is valuable to your audience.
Write for People Not for Search Engines
The most important tip to remember is:
you need to write for your audience,
not just the search engines.
By providing your readers with content they value, not only will you be more likely to gain customers, but you’ll find favour with the search engines as well.
